[SOLVED] Taking Ownership of source user seems to be long...

I have between 400-500 gigs of user data....when is it too long a time for "take ownership" to run?  it is taking a long time to take ownership...is an hour too long?

The answer to this question is inside your post. You say that you are taking ownership of at least 400 gigs. That means a lot of files. Taking ownership takes time, that is normal. Doing this task using the windows explorer will take the same time. You have to use this feature if the user profile your are backing up is password protected or there will be permission issues and files will be left behind. If there is no password protection anywhere then go ahead without taking ownership.

Thanks for the response.  It finished taking ownership without issue, and is now backing up.  Thanks again.

Re: [SOLVED] Taking Ownership of source user seems to be long...

Hi Fab,

Maybe it's a good idea to implement the option "take ownership when needed" ?
You could make it check if the user folder is accessible, and when not, take ownership...
Or even do this check while the backup is running and take ownership when directories it's processing are not accessible.

That would sure save a lot of time for users who are using a generic command line script..

Greetings.

To check if ownership has to be taken or not, I may try to write and delete a test file somewhere in the user's profile. If it fails then the profile ownership would be taken.
The take ownership option would be hidden and never confuse people again.
Nice idea.
