[SOLVED] Backup Win XP -> Restore to Win 8.1

Hello,

First time post and wondering about cross version backup and restore. To date I have run backups with Fab's and then manually restored them onto a new machine by picking the files I need. I don't see any mention of cross version restores and was wondering if it works and if it does, is there anything to watch out for. Currently backing up a Win XP machine to restore to a new Win 8.1 machine.

Hi David
No problem about that. Backing up from Win 8.1 and restore to XP would also be possible as soon as migrated data are cross compatible tongue . In example, if you wish to backup Outlook Express and restore it to Win Vista or later, that will not work as Outlook Express does not exist on these systems. You would have to migrate first this Outlook Express to something else like MS Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird and then perform the backup.
