[SOLVED] Multiple accounts restore and backup-restore question

New user to Autobackup and have had great success with basic backups and restores so far, and very impressed with the program. smile We are now looking to move forward after gaining confidence in the product and have a couple of questions regarding multiple user accounts and also how to restore backups stored on a remote standalone system.

Firstly on systems with multiple user accounts. We have tried test backups on a system with multiple user accounts (3 accounts) and the backup appears to have worked with no problem and backed up the 3 accounts automatically. When trying to restore the backup to same computer (now wiped and with fresh install of windows) we cannot find an option to automatically restore the muliple accounts back onto the system. Can Autobackup restore the multiple accounts itself without any interaction from ourselves like it does in the backup process? If not, can this be added or is there a work around to achieve this as the automated backup process is superb and a restore process the same way would be a huge time-saver.

Our next query is regarding restoring backups to be held on a separate standalone system which we currently use to store our customers backups while working on their computers. Could you advise if the following is possible using Autobackup.

1. Remove HDD from customer laptop (Drive A).
2. Attach Drive A via sata to standalone backup system and use Autoback to backup customers files/settings onto Drive B which is on standalone backup system.
3. We would then remove Drive A from backup system and return to laptop, format Drive A, reinstall windows O/S and programs.
4 Remove Drive A from laptop
5. Reattach Drive A via sata back onto standalone system and restore the earlier made backup that is being held on Drive B in the standalone system.
6. Return Drive A to laptop with now fully restored data.

We have tried the above but cannot seem to achieve this using the 'Backup' and 'Restore' settings within Autobackup. So we are currently using a USB external drive to attach to customers computer to store the backup, and then restore from same USB external drive, however we it would be great to be able to use our current standalone backup system for this process as it allows us large amounts of storage space.

Many thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Multiple accounts restore and backup-restore question

Hi,
multiple account restore is not handled. That may be the case some day but not now as it would require me to rewrite the restore part of the program hmm
However,
there is a trick that may help :
before you restore, create the users accounts (and sign in with each one or the user profiles will not be created), then run a script like that :

"X:\AutoBackup6Pro\AutoBackup6Pro.exe" /RESTORE /FROM="F:\Test\Profile_1_backup" /TARGETUSERPROFILENAME="Profile1" /ALL

"X:\AutoBackup6Pro\AutoBackup6Pro.exe" /RESTORE /FROM="F:\Test\Profile_2_backup" /TARGETUSERPROFILENAME="Profile2" /ALL

That should work.

For the second question, if I understand what you mean, you would like to be able to restore to an offline disk. If so, this will never been added as create accounts (and their profiles) offline is not possible. This is why restore (and transfers) can only been performed on live systems. If you really want to restore data from your backup system, why not using network shares and restore the files from there on the customer laptop ?

Cheers
