Hello,
I'm attempting to do a transfer from another drive using Fab2 6.7.6213.53894.
I am met with this error:
---------------------------
Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro
---------------------------
No mapping for the Unicode character exists in the target multi-byte code page.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Then it gets stuck on Loading... Please wait.
I left it overnight and it does not complete.
I also tried backup mode, but I'm met with the same error.

Hello,
This is a very rare issue.
Unfortunately, I do not have any clue to reproduce it.
If you can send me all the system's registry hives I can try once again to find out what is wrong.
The files I need are (where X:\ is the hooked drive):
X:\UserProfile1\ntuser.dat
X:\UserProfile2\ntuser.dat
X:\UserProfileX\ntuser.dat
X:\Windows\System32\Config\SOFTWARE (file without extension)
X:\Windows\System32\Config\SYSTEM (file without extension)
Just zip all of this and upload it to dropbox or some other cloud storage service and send me the download link to "fab at fpnet.fr"
Thanks!

I got the files and put them into a virtual hard drive to simulate your configuration and no error message appeared when I ran the program. I still do not have any clue I can follow. So far, I am unable to say what is wrong with this drive

Hi,
I just tried swapping the cable I was using for the external drive. I'm still getting the same error.
I noticed that it's only with the account Theresa, not MCX1-HP.
Any ideas? I've got to get this PC back to my client.

Sadly not
I guess this user profile is too large to be zipped and uploaded. Maybe if you can remove heavy stuff like documents, videos, pictures, temporary files, etc... that could help but I am afraid not for this job bceause there is not much time left.

Check your PMs.
I have just sent a download link to a modified version.
I changed the program to work in Unicode instead of UTF-8 for most of its text and configuation files.
I hope that will work for you. Please let me know in any case.
Thanks

Thank-you. However this one didn't work either. Same error.
I went back to the supported version and I managed to pick BOTH profiles and press the X at the bottom while scanning. Then I went back to the main interface and swapped between the two profiles and It looks like it's letting me copy now.

I am afraid that until I encounter this issue myself I will not be able to fix it. Thank you anyway for trying this version. I am reverting the changes since they are useless and break the AutoBackup.ini configuration file.

This is almost a constant for me now.
I plug in the old hard drives using USB adapters.
I run Fab, select transfer and it doesn't matter if FAB is creating the user or it already exists.
The error comes up as soon as I go to the next screen.
On the following screens there is never any "public data" selected and I usually have to go back and copy user documents, pictures as many are missed.
It's very annoying as I used to trust FAB now I have to recheck that everything has been done.
Let me know if I can help in any way to find the problem.

I am very sorry to read such message.
Check you PMs, I have sent a test version to you with some changes in the registry hive mount parts of code.
I am still not able to reproduce the issue but I hope that will fix that issue.
Let me know if it works better for you.
Thanks

According to some Google searches, it looks like it is a known bug in Delphi (the language Fab's AutoBackup is written in) since several versions. I currently use the latest version and it is still not fixed.
I have sent two other versions in PM. One compiled with my actual Delphi version (with some other tweaks in the way registry hives are loaded) and another one compiled with an older version of Delphi (2010). I have never had such complains when I was using it so it is worth a try, even if it has been a lot of work to make my source code compatible with Delphi 2010 again.
Let me know if it works for you and which one does the trick.
If not, I will start a bigger job putting bug traps everywhere in the program, even if it takes me days. I definitely want to find a work around for this bug.

Here are some news from the field.
According to another user, it looks like the Delphi 2010 version works fine. I am not very pleased rolling back but I have no choice.
The good news for you is that this bug will be solved this way in a few days.

I have released a fixed version a few hours ago. The Delphi roll back has done the trick.
