Backup / Restore of Edge favorites seems to be nonfunctional in 7.0.10.700 (also 7.0.11.759). I tried this on my client's new computer as well as my own profile-to-profile backup/restore. Edge favorites do not seem to transfer. Windows 1903. Is there any trick to this?

This feature can be very tedious as edge uses databases to store favorites and they often don't like to be copied or moved somewhere else. Also, it requires windows builds to be strictly the same on source and target. I mean if you have 1903 as source, target machine must be 1903 as well.
Is that the case?

At least on my machine here where I have noted the failure, it is a backup and restore to a different account on the same machine. The other failure on my client machine however, it is not known.

It should have worked on your machine since you may not have reinstalled it. I guess this does not work anymore on 1903.
Since I cannot extract information from that proprietary Microsoft database, I'm afraid I will have to remove completely that feature. A half (or worse) working feature is not a good feature and has to be removed if it cannot be fixed

That would be disappointing. It would be better if it could be fixed obviously. Perhaps there is a change that can be accommodated to bring it back into working order? I think chromium based edge will be a long way off.

This needs to be investigated. Of course, removing a feature is definitely not satisfying but if I cannot find a fix, I will not have any other choice. Hopefully Chromium Edge would be in next Windows 10 build but looking at insiders builds, it does not look like it will take this path that soon : classic Edge is still included

I have done that test remotely on my development computer and news are not good at all. Plain Edge favorites database files copy that used to work before 1903 came out does not work anymore.
I guess it is now tied to Windows's user name or SID or some obscure other criteria but it's definitely not working. Smells bad...

New day, new test. The feature is definitely broken because of Windows 10 1903. Obviously, Microsoft has changed that database's format and now, it cannot be copied from a machine to another or a profile to another. That's the worst possible case : I am sorry but the feature needs to be removed from Fab's AutoBackup as it des not work anymore with latest Windows 10 version.
Fix : use Chrome or Firefox instead and stay away from Edge...

I'm on a workaround for this :
Spartan.edb file cannot be moved to another machine or user profile : that's a fact and there's nothing I can do against it.
However, I can export Edge favorites by using Nirsoft ESEDatabaseView tool. For that, I get the last automatic spartan.edb backup file (I need a file that's not in use by Edge and regular file is always locked as there's always a MicrosoftEdge.exe process running in background). I call the Nirsoft tool in command line to open that backup file and export the favorites table in a text file. Then, I need to parse that text file to grab URLs and their title, generate an html file that Edge will be able to import with this information inside.
That's a twisted workaround but it looks promising.
