How to back up when Windows directory is missing

Aloha. I have a hard drive where something went seriously wrong. There is no Windows directory (or another directory that functions as the Windows directory). I would like to run AutoBackup to grab all the data before wiping the drive and reinstalling Windows, but can't figure out how to possibly do this.

If I run AutoBackupPro7.exe, the GUI wants either the drive letter or the path to a windows directory. The drive concerned (it's a pulled disk) does not show up in the list of drives, and as stated before there is no Windows directory on this drive. So, I'm stuck.

Someone suggested that I try the command line generator, so I did and this is what came out of the builder:

C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Users\harryz\Desktop\Fab's Autobackup\autobackup7pro\AutoBackup7Pro.exe" /BACKUP /LANGUAGE="ENGLISH" SOURCEDRIVE=I /TO="Z:\Customer_Data\xxxx" /SUBFOLDER=#DATE#\#COMPUTERNAME# /KEEPFOLDERSDATES /SOURCEUSERSPRO
FILESNAMES="ALL" /ALWAYSOVERWRITE /ALL /LOGSTORAGE="Z:\Customer_Data\xxxx\"

From the generated command, the Sourcedrive=I but, when I run this command,  AB tries to copy stuff from the local C: drive. Here's the first few lines of the log file:

2019/09/26 - 9:37:59 AM : Taking VSS snapshot (C:\)
2019/09/26 - 9:38:13 AM : Processing : HARRYZ
2019/09/26 - 9:38:13 AM : harryz : Desktop ("C:\VSS_C_ShadowCopy\Users\harryz\Desktop") : 53 Files (*.*) - 47.53 MB
2019/09/26 - 9:38:13 AM : harryz : My Documents : No file to copy
2019/09/26 - 9:38:13 AM : harryz : My Pictures : No file to copy
2019/09/26 - 9:38:13 AM : harryz : My Music : No file to copy
2019/09/26 - 9:38:13 AM : harryz : My Videos : No file to copy
2019/09/26 - 9:38:13 AM : harryz : Downloads ("C:\VSS_C_ShadowCopy\Users\harryz\Downloads") : 120 Files (*.*) - 58.2 MB

If I can figure out how to attach it, I will attach the log file.

So... is there a way to run AB against a pulled drive that is missing the Windows directory?

Additional details. I'm running AB on a Win 7 virtual machine running on a Linux host. The pulled drive is attached via an eSATA docking station and appears at the I: drive in Windows. I can access the drive from Windows explorer with no problems.

Thank you,

Harry Z

Re: How to back up when Windows directory is missing

Hi,
You shouldn't do that using the command line for that particular case. Use the program's GUI here. If Windows directory is missing, you will be prompted for users profiles location and you will be able to do that job.
