I have just taken the back up from a xp and have put in on a fresh win 10 ...all the pst files are there ....I thought it would have brought in the proflies am I doing something wrong ?

It should have done it. The registry may be corrupted. Was this computer still working correctly ? If so, what Outlook version was it running?

Yes i thought it had done for me in the past .....I thought it was outlook 2007 but i cant be sure it might have been 2003 .........Thanks for getting back to me so fast ...Im under a bit of pressure

I have backed up a Pop3 based Outlook profile under XP and restored it to a Win10 with Office 2016 installed. At first startup, Outlook has not recognized the old Outlook 2003 profile. 2016 may not be able to migrate such old versions. I am installing an Office 2013 and will report back after that.

The Outlook 2013 test has worked fine.
First of all, do you have in your backup a "MAPI" folder within your "Path_To_Your_Backup\archive\OutlookPST" folder?
If not, make the Outlook backup from the XP again (in case of doubts, check every PST/OST file listed).
Then, you need to perform a full Outlook cleanup on the Windows 10 machine :
- run regedit.
- Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles"
- Edit the "Default Profile" value and clear its content.
- Delete all the registry subkeys (the look like folders) in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles"
- Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profiles" and do exactly the same thing.
- Close the registry editor.
Now, you will have to remove the Outlook PST files from the Windows 10 system drive:
- Using the Windows file explorer, go to the "C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" and remove the PST files in it.
Now, you should have a blank Outlook environment on the Win10 machine. Restore the XP outlook files from your backup selecting all the PST files listed on the program's interface. This way, you are sure that everything is restored, including the profiles.
After that, if the source Outlook profiles are not corrupted, Outlook 2013 should be able to migrate the 2003/2007 profile. Enter the accounts passwords when asked and you should be done with it!
